Voices of Hope 1st show of 2011; How the internet has changed

Founder Gayle Crabtree will be the guest for the first segment of Voices of Hope in 2011. Tune in Tuesday, January 18 at 12:00 pm. Hope for Healing.Org has been online since 1996.

We'll be talking about all the great things that are coming up for the New Year and take a look at how the internet has changed over the years. You may be surprised to learn that social media has been around all this time. It's hot, but it's not the new kid on the block that everyone thinks it is.

Gayle will also talk about how the online healing environment has changed. When it comes to peer base support, what is the potential impact of Facebook, Twitter and social media tools? It's a lot to pack into a 30 minute segment. Don't miss a minute of it.

If you can't steer your browser to http://www.blogtalkradio.com/voicesofhope you can call in to listen live at 718.506.1545.

See you online!

Topics covered on Voices of Hope 12/07/10

We talked about the Rape of Mr. Smith on Voices of Hope today. Since it was sent in by a listener we want to post the link on this blog. You can read the story of the Rape of Mr. Smith here.

PTSD was also talked about today. The holidays can be triggering for a lot of survivors and this can bring on the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Distorder. As a survivor it is important to monitor yourself. If you feel that the stress or PTSD is becoming too much for you it is ok to get help. Local mental health centers, private therapists, your doctor and hotlines can all be sources of support. They exist to help.

Hope for Healing.Org has a list of PTSD resources available online. You can access those by clicking here

Christmas Candle
We also talked about how this survivor has found ways to reframe the holidays by creating new traditions for her family along with strengthening her faith through meditation and prayer. This has helped her better enjoy the Christmas season. Her hope is that it will help you as well.

Amy Ramsey on Voices of Hope today at 12:00 Noon

Join us on Voices of Hope today at 12:00 noon. We'll be talking with Amy Ramsey  about domestic violence and the holiday season. What can survivors do to keep themselves emotionally safe and get through the holidays? Amy is a survivor who will be online to give hope to other survivors at Christmas.

Tune in today at 12:00 Noon, EST.

Lot's Wife discussion in Biblical Voices of Hope help resources

Thanks to everyone who tuned in tonight for our second segment of Biblical Voices of Hope about the journeys of women in the Bible. Our first segment about Eve was a huge success. We hope you enjoyed tonight's show as well.

Gayle and Teresa discussed the story of Lot's wife as found in Genesis Chapter 19:1 - 29. This is the story of Lot and his family. It begins as a rescue. It ends with the death of Lot's wife as she looked back at the cities and was turned into a pillar of salt.

During tonights Biblical Voices of Hope, Gayle and Teresa talked about Lot's family. To these ladies, two aspects of the story stand out that may be of help to survivors. One is that survivors should look to the future for hope and new life. The other thing that Gayle and Teresa talked about was the lack of faith that Lot's wife showed.

Other resources that were referenced during Biblical Voices of Hope include:

These Bible scriptures and others can be researched online through this link.

We are in the process of putting a study guide together for this segment of Biblical Voices of Hope. Keep watching the Hope Blog for details.

Hope reminder:

If you are spending too much time looking back in your life we want you to know that help is available. Resources that you may be able to tap into include local and national hotlines, help centers in your area and your pastor. We have two hotlines listed on the Hope Blog that may also be of help.

Join us for Biblical Journeys of Women; Lot's Wife 9pm tonight

Join us tonight at 9pm on Biblical Journeys of Women. Gayle, Sharhonda and Teresa will discuss Lot's wife. Our scripture reference will be Genesis 19. Our focus scripture will be Genesis 19:26.

The scripture tells us that two cities were to be destroyed when Lot's family was able to get to safety. When Lot's wife looked back she was turned into "a pillar of salt".

What hope, if anything, can a survivor of sexual or domestic violence find in this story? Are there insights that can help us find our path to healing? Tune in as our survivors tackle these issues.

Below is one sample of an evidentiary affidavit. The process is the same for both women and men. It can be used to help victims of domestic violence at any age level.

If you know someone who is a victim have them watch this video. It may be one of the most important things that you've ever done.

Time's Up evidentiary affidavit for both men and women

In a previous blog article we talked about the book Time's Up. Susan Murphy-Milano has put countless hours and years of working with victims into the creation of this book. One of the key elements it discusses is how to create and evidentiary affidavit that can help in cases of domestic violence.

The best thing about the evidentiary affidavit talked about in Time's Up is that it can be used for any victim. This means that both women and men may benefit equally by creating the evidentiary affidavit. A video like the one below can put vital information into the hands of law enforcement when it's needed the most.

Here is a sample video of a man who used the tools discussed in Time's Up. To learn more, listen to our free podcast on Voices of Hope.

(If you do choose to purchase an ebook please use the link on the sidebar. Susan Murphy-Milano will donate $5 to our organization for each copy sold through this link only. Purchasing a hard copy from this Amazon.com link will donate a tiny percentage to Hope for Healing.Org.)

Tuesday, Sept. 7
Time: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Angelica Harris was born in New York City into a diverse European family. With her love of writing ignited in high school, she majored in liberal arts and theatre at Hunter College. Harris interned at the Roundabout Theatre on Broadway in New York City and acted in community theatre, followed by a stint on the sci- soap Dark Shadows. Her passion for medieval history led her to write The Quest for Excalibur and Excalibur and the Holy Grail.

In 2004, Angelica partnered with Corey Blake (Chairman of the Dream for Writers of the Round Table Inc., and Writers of the Round Table Press) to develop her third book, Excalibur Reclaims Her King, which is being adapted into a screenplay. Harris and Blake spoke about their work at the Virginia Reading Conference in 2006. In this book, Harris invented a Pagan language using the Druid language she studied from Celtic mythology to create the linguistics of the speech. She promises this book will be an adventure to her readers—both historically and magically! In addition to novels and dozens of articles and short stories, Angelica was commissioned in 2005 by the Titanic Museum in Florida and Nova Scotia to develop a historical piece for display in the museums. She founded The Excalibur Reading Program and is on the board of directors for The International Domestic Violence Memorial.
