Photos from the pancake dinner

Here are some photos from the pancake dinner on Tuesday night. We appreciate everyone who came out in the miserable weather to make our event a success!

There were many great positive comments about how our ministry is making a difference. Each of our board members said a few words or read testimonies about our services. This helped everyone understand the full scope of our involvement.

Raising funds to keep us online is important (that's why we have sponsored ads) but events like this one are also important tools for networking. There are some exciting things in the future!

Networking done on Facebook and at the dinner is helping to make a self-defense class happen. Word is spreading about our upcoming teleclasses to train clergy. People volunteered with us for the first time and are going to come back later. Many good things are coming together to help survivors of abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault.

Earlier this year we said that abuse survivors can make 2011 the best year yet. That's what we're seeing and living. Lots more events are on our calendar that will help raise awareness of sexual and domestic violence. More are being added today so keep watching.

Here are a few photos from the dinner that you can enjoy. Find out more about us on our Facebook page.

Meeting of our Board of Directors

Our Hope for Healing.Org Board of Directors met tonight for our monthly business meeting. We got a lot accomplished. It's great to see so much enthusiasm put to good use!

One of the things that we talked about is an upcoming fundraiser. We're going to be holding a Fat Tuesday pancake supper will all the trimmings. On display will be items created by our Hope Youth and we'll be showing a movie of some of the neat things that we've been doing to raise awareness and educate the public about sexual and domestic violence.

The Hope for Healing.Org Board of Directors discussed many other ideas too! There is going to be lots of activities going on in 2011. We've already got some great events lined up on our calendar. You'll want to be sure to check it out. The link is to the right of this article.

Everyone on our Board of Directors is excited for the future. Some of the outreach opportunities this year is an upcoming series of training teleclasses. These will be offered for a nominal fee. Participants in each call will be given instructions on how to get a certificate of completion for attending the teleconference.

We're also going to be revamping the website and continuing with existing outreach programs. As mentioned earlier, it's going to be a great year!

Hope for Victims Lights Holiday Remembrance Tree

Hope For Victims is holding their Second Annual Holiday Remembrance Tree event. Friends, family members and advocates of homicide victims are invited to place their memorial ornaments on the Remembrance Tree in honor of the rights of victims and to recognize and remember the unnecessary loss of life.

The event is open to anyone who wishes to add an ornament to the tree. The Hope for Victims press release says this about the annual event.
“The Annual Holiday Day Remembrance Tree
serves as a reminder that our loved ones are missed every day of the year."

Candle
The connection between domestic violence and intimate partner homicide is sobering. According to the Family Violence Prevention Fund, more than 3 women a day in the U.S. are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.

Hope for Healing.Org was honored to have partnered with Hope for Victims in collecting items for domestic violence and sexual assault programs in our local area. It was a small thing that we could do to support those who have lost so much.

If you would like more information on the Hope for Victims Annual Holiday Remembrance Tree please visit their Facebook page.

eBay Auction Benefits Hope for Healing.Org

Amazinstufftohave is giving us an eBay auction! You'll want to check out the items that are for sale. At least 10% of the items listed on this link will help Hope for Healing.Org. Many items have a higher percentage designated.

These are being sold through eBay / Mission Fish Community Seller Program. This program allows individuals to list items, choose a nonprofit to benefit and select the percentage that they want to give. To make it easier for the seller and nonprofit all percentages are handled automatically. Mission Fish (the nonprofit side of eBay) guarantees the donation to go to the selected nonprofit. This is a good program.

Participating sellers get perks too. Every Mission Fish / eBay item that is listed is flagged with a special ribbon. The added visual interest helps items sell. Sellers also get a matching percentage break on eBay fees. An item listed with a 10% donation gets 10% of the fees knocked off.

At Hope for Healing.Org we are reaching more clients than ever. This makes sellers like Amazingstufftohave even more valued.

Hope Youth 2009 Achievements on You Tube

In addition to our work online, local services are offered in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. Hope Youth are kids who come to us to do community service who stay on as volunteers or they are kids who want to make a difference in their community. Strawberry Plains, Tennessee is a rural area outside of Knoxville in Jefferson County. A slideshow is on the player on the right of the screen.

The kids who we work with in Strawberry Plains range from high functioning scholars at the top of their high school class to kids who can barely read. Some come to us from Appalachian type of settings with a poverty mindset. Others come to us from Knoxville with different cultural backgrounds.

Hope for Healing.Org is a Christian organization. We give out Bibles when requested and answer questions about Christianity. It is ever our goal to interfere with the cultural or religious background of the individual in Strawberry Plains or online. Our desire is to foster an atmosphere of understanding and mutual respect.

The kids seem to enjoy their time at Hope for Healing.Org and learn life-changing skills. We think that's pretty cool. How about you?
