Welcome to our new admin on Facebook

Our Facebook page has a new admin. Welcome Liz! If you are a newsletter subscriber you may have already seen her handiwork. Local volunteers know her from all the help she gives at events.

Her bright upbeat attitude is infectious. We have full confidence that Liz will do a great job as an admin! We appreciate her help and welcome her to our Facebook Page with open arms. If you've not dropped by to say hello yet why not point your browser there now? Our url is http://www.facebook.com/hopeforhealingorg

If you would like to volunteer just send an email to countmein (at) hopeforhealing (dot) org. We are looking for volunteer bloggers, social media team members, Voices of Hope and chat room monitors in all of our groups and forums. Locally, we always need help with outreach and education events.

Email us today to begin making a difference for other survivors. You (and they) will be glad.

Lockers work wonders for volunteer storage needs

We found something out pretty quickly when Hope for Healing.Org had a ministry center. There was a real need to keep personal belongings well away from the clothing closet area. This caused problems for us on a few occasions. A volunteer solved the problem by donating a set of lockers to us.

This tall set of school lockers was just what we needed. These were the heavy metal lockers that you probably remember from high school. Each was sized about like a gym locker. There was enough space for each volunteer to be able to put a jacket, lunch box and backpack or purse in the cabinet.

Wood lockers would probably have worked just as well. They are often heavy duty and meant to be durable.

If you are a nonprofit agency and you see a set of lockers for sale our advice would be to grab them while you can. We found out that a school locker works as well for our purposes as it does for any area school.

Handcrafted Cards Given to a Shelter and Jail Ministry

This week cards made by volunteers helped make hope happen. These handcrafted cards were given to  a shelter and to a jail ministry. You can imagine that $2 spent on cards and stamps might be a hardship for someone who is homeless due to domestic violence or economics. Women who are in crisis situations don't have the luxury of purchasing cards to send to family or friends. Giving handmade cards is a valued act of kindness.

Some of the cards that we make are eventually sold to benefit  Hope for Healing.Org. (We have to purchase supplies, internet access and basic expenses.)  It is our goal that as many of the cards as possible will be given to the women who need it.

It's part of how we provide education and support to the victims of sexual or domestic violence that we serve and give hope to the people who love them.

Give a Day Get a Disney Day Program to Close

We have just gotten word that the Give a Day Get a Day Disney program is drawing to a close. According to the Hands On Network the 1 million ticket mark has almost been reached. If you have already signed up for a volunteer opportunity don't worry. It's our understanding that your tickets are secure as long as you serve on the day, date and time that you registered.

The Give a Day Get a Day program of Walt Disney World has been a huge success. We appreciate everyone who has given their time. It is our fervent hope that you will come back to volunteer again. To put it bluntly, our program needs you and welcomes you. There is always a lot to do. As our volunteers already know it's also fun.
