Jan. Angel Food Distribution goes well!
Our volunteers rise to the occasion again!
Overseen by Gwen, it was all hands on deck for this month's Angel Food distribution. Mike and the his sons did another great job with the truck! (I'm telling you these guys are powerhouses!) Bill, Michele, Jonathan and Deborah all pitched in to sort and pack the food boxes. We had kids helping both through Restorative Justice and as teen volunteers.
Many thanks to the anonymous person who donated lunch. You ensured that no one who came to us to help went home hungry. Many of the kids who come to us to serve court-ordered hours come from difficult home lives. We always try to feed the kids something before sending them home. Your donated lunch helped us help them. Thank you.
Kudos also go to the people who sponsored Angel Food boxes this month! These boxes are now $30.00. Food stamps are accepted. The problem is we are seeing more people who are caught between affording food and being eligible for food stamps. For January, 17% of the food boxes we gave out were sponsored boxes.
Thank you for helping us help others!

Morristown District UMW Event (TN) - Parrottsville UMC
Staff and volunteers are hustling and bustling to get the word out about domestic violence and the services we offer at Hope for Healing.Org in 2008. Yesterday, two volunteers and I set up a display at the Morristown District UMW Event in Parrottsville, TN.
We appreciate Vicki's invitation and the warm welcome by the ladies there. In contrast to the snowy morning the event was warm and cozy. The church was packed with what appeared to be around 100 women. A nice worship was offered which included communion. You couldn't help but be impressed by the speaker at Wesley House and with all the great work they are doing!
After the meeting and service we adjourned to lunch in the fellowship hall. If you came, that's where you found our table and the Hope Quilt. We appreciate all the ladies who stopped by to talk and the almost 1/3 of you who picked up information! Most of all, we appreciate the opportunity to meet the enthusiastic ladies who make up the UMW in the Morristown District.
Thanks for inviting us and making us feel welcome! We hope to see you again next time!

Take our Workshop at the Impacting Ministry Knoxville District Event
Brochure information is here:
http://www.holston.org/media/event/event/impactingministry.pdf
Take our workshop today at the Impacting Ministry event held at Fountain City United Methodist Church. Domestic Violence; The Silent Epidemic presented by Gayle Crabtree (Founder & Executive Director of Hope for Healing.Org) with her husband, Rev. John Crabtree who will be covering the example of an Old Testament family caught in the bondage of domestic violence. Registration begins at 1:30. Workshops begin at 2:45.
Heartbreakingly, one in three women worldwide will be abused in her lifetime. Wrapped in a shroud of evil silence many victims will fail to come forward to find the healing they deserve and need. What does Domestic Violence within the church look like? As a Christian what do you do if someone confides in you that they are being abused? Were women abused in the Bible? Is leaving Biblical? Come to our workshop to find some answers and learn how to help. See the Hope Quilt - a testimony by survivors.

Panther Springs United Methodist Church
Host church for the 2008 District Day of Vision, the folks at Panther Springs United Methodist Church sure know how to make you feel welcome. The friendly church members were on hand in the fellowship hall to help me find the perfect spot for our display and Hope Quilt. The ladies of the church were bustling with energy as they prepared a hot chili lunch for a crowd. Several attendees stopped by our table to pick up information about domestic violence and the other other services we offer. I and another longstanding volunteer attended the information-filled workshop on Conflict Resolution. If you are local to the Morristown District of the United Methodist Church and you missed this event it's a shame. Now you have to wait another full year to get to come. We'll see you then!
And the newest item is...
Two night stay at the Ramada Inn, Pigeon Forge, TN.
Mardi Gras, Mardi Gras, I can't wait til Mardi Gras!
See you then,
Gayle

Help comes in the most unexpected forms. Sometimes, it's right in front of you in the place - or people - you would least likely expect. We've learned that with Mardi Gras 2008 and we've learned it in a big way.
One particular couple has been instrumental in getting most of the items that we've collected so far. They are great people. Hardworking. Enduring. Homeless.
Surprised?
They had no job and have no place to park their camper but they wanted to pay it forward in some way. So, to help us this couple made it their mission to ask for donations as they went job hunting. Ask either of them and they'll tell you how much they wanted to give a little back for what we've done for them. We were surprised but didn't want to say no. So, off they went and back they came with arms loaded with Mardi Gras items. They met new people, had a great time and their faith in the world was renewed.
And guess what? Tomorrow, they both have their first day at the new jobs they got along the way!
Proud of them? We are.
See you at Mardi Gras!
Gayle
