We're getting there!
The church who donates space to us has graciously agreed to let us use another room. Soon, we'll be able to keep a clothing closet set-up. Right now, our things are in storage. When we have a victim or community member who needs clothing we have to go to storage, get the bags, load them up, bring them over and sort. It's not ideal but it helps others. As soon as we get racks we'll get the closet set up.
Let's hope for good weather this weekend! :)

Holidays and short fuses.
It's still morning but already a busy day. This weekend is the traditional kick-off of holiday shopping. High stress and spent paychecks make for short tempers.
If you are living in an abusive household it's important to have a safety plan. Think about what you need to do to keep yourself safe. If you have to leave where will you go? How will you get there? What documents do you need? Think and plan.
Here is some information which may help:
The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1.800.799.SAFE It's toll-free and staffed 24/7.

Thrift Space Solution
As those of you who follow Hope for Healing.Org (or read this blog) already know, we've been hoping to open a Thrift Shop for ages. We thought we had the ideal location but the building's owner had an insurance proble. Now, we think we may have found an alternative.
The Crafts and Collectibles Mall who donated space to us at their crafts show earlier this month is allowing us to rent space. Each booth there is rented by a different tenant. The tenant is responsible for keeping it stocked and looking nice. For 10% and a small monthly rental fee the Crafts and Collectibles Mall takes care of everything else.
To say we're excited is an understatement! When you are out shopping tomorrow stop by! We have just finished getting the booth ready. There are great, survivor-made, pins and earrings as well as some incredible scarves. These are perfect for holiday gifts!
Be sure to pick up a brochure or flyer about domestic violence or sexual assault while you are there. These are always free and there are always plenty. Take one for a friend too.
Don't forget to stop by,
Gayle

Poverty and Domestic Violence
Food Pantry days are generally busy days. Today is no exception. The church that donates space to us distributes food on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. Thanksgiving is just around the corner.
With the holidays approaching it's a sad time to be poor and an even worse time to be a domestic violence victim. The women we see have the least amount of resources to fall back on. We're here to hand out information about domestic violence and to reassure them that it's not impossible.
Often, they give me a look that says "easy for you to say". And they're right. It is easy to say. I just wish it was easy to do! But, when I see women succeed after abuse or hear from a woman online who is living violence free, it makes it easier to offer hope to others.
So no, it's not impossible. You can do it!

A few more days...
To Everyone,
I will be back in the office after a few more days. My daughter is still ill. We hope she will be able to come home this afternoon. If so, I'll be back in full swing later in the week. I do have Internet access and check it several times daily. Don't hesitate to email me or call and leave a message.
Talk to you soon,
Gayle

Come see us Tomorrow!
We're all ready to go. The tables are in place. The cars are loaded. Come see our table at the Crafts and Collectibles Mall on Asheville Hwy. in Knoxville, Tn tomorrow. They've got some great vendors and events lined up. It's sure to be a lot of fun for the family. I'll be there early and will then leave it in the very capable hands of Lori and Sheilah.
It's worth the trip to see the Hope Quilt. Panel I is complete. Panel II is well on it's way. Come add your square and see the vendors at the crafts show. See you there!

Great Event!
I never fail to be moved by people's stories. Today was no exception. Many thanks to those of you who filled out a quilt square, picked up information or just said hello.
To the lady who kept apologizing for taking up so much of my time, this is exactly what we are here for. When you need to talk, we're here to listen.
To the lady who had to move because of her abuser, we'll be glad to help with the Criminal Compensation forms. Just let us know. We are honored that you chose to share your story with us.
I also want to thank those of you who bought a purple ribbon bracelet or necklace or made a donation. We made $55. Every little bit helps.
And of course, where would we be without our volunteers! If you came by, you met Sheilah. She is worth her weight in Gold. Thanks for covering the event for me while my daughter is hospitalized.
And Billy Bob of "Billy Bob's Bistro" thanks for taking the table back to the church we borrowed it from. I forgot I would be in the Focus when my husband brought it over in his truck. A lesson learned! :)
It took at least 6 people to make this a success for Hope for Healing.Org. All help, large and small is appreciated. Where would we be without great folks like you? Thanks again! See you next week.

Getting ready for Saturday.
We have a terrific display ready for Saturday! You should see it! We'll post pictures in the events listing when we can. We're grateful that the Crafts and Collectibles Mall donated space to allow us to be there. I'm equally grateful for Lori and for great volunteers like Sheilah and John. Together, we all make it possible to help others! Let's keep up the good work!
