Voices of Hope hosts prayer service for domestic violence survivors

Voices of Hope will host a online prayer request show for domestic violence survivors on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 12:00 noon (EDT). Our first online prayer request show was such a hit that we are offering it again. 

To our knowledge, Voices of Hope is the first show to offer an online prayer service just for victims of sexual or domestic violence. That marks another first for Hope for Healing.Org. We strive to always be on the leading edge when it comes to providing support to survivors of rape and domestic violence.

Families, friends and professionals who work with survivors are also welcome to request prayer. 

Prayer requests may be emailed to voicesofhope@hopeforhealing.org in advance. Live callers may make their requests by calling into 718.506.1545.

When requesting we do ask that only first names be used. We reserve the right to edit requests. All requests for prayer will be honored.

Voices of Hope internet radio show is hosted weekly on Blog Talk Radio. Tune in to this link to listen live. All segments are available to be downloaded as a free podcast 30 minutes after the conclusion of the broadcast.

Author Janine Latus on Voices of Hope, Tues. 8/10

Janine Latus was out of town on business when the call came in. It's the call that no one should have to receive. Her baby sister Amy, was missing. It was two weeks later before her body was located. Janine herself had just gotten out of a relationship with a controlling man. Now, she faced the nightmare of a lifetime.

Janine  Latus is a long time writer who turned her journalistic eye inward. Her book, If I Am Missing or Dead: A Sister's Story of Love, Murder, and Liberation is a memoir/biography that you will definitely want to read.

Learn about Restorative Justice on Voices of Hope

Have you heard of Restorative Justice? This is the program that sends us juvenile offenders each month. They serve community service hours and we just try to change their lives. Many of the kids stay on or come back as volunteers.

On our internet radio show, Voices of Hope, we'll be taking more about it. Two representatives from the Knox County Restorative Justice program will be explaining more about how the program works and the lives that are impacted. It's going to be a really cool segment.

Angela Dove author of No Room for Doubt on Voices of Hope 5/11/10

Angela Dove, author of No Room for Doubt will be on Voices of Hope on 5/11/10. Her stepmother, Debi  Whitlock, was murdered on March 25, 1988. The investigation revolved around Debi's husband (Angela's father) for years after the murder.

Jacque MacDonald is Debi's mother. She worked hard to keep her daughter's face in the eyes of the public. Jacque persuaded businesses to get involved with distributing fliers. She raised money to develop a reward fund for information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of the killer. Because Jacque MacDonald did not give up the killer was finally found and brought to justice.

Was it Angela's dad? Was it someone else? No Room for Doubt is a pageturner. Police, advocates, forensics experts should all read this book. It will help you understand what a victims' family goes through. Survivors and victims' families will find hope.

She will tell us about the passage of the Johnia Berry Act of 2007 in Tennessee. So far, only 21 states have adopted this important piece of legislation.

• NCIC -  2008 total missing persons files totaled 778,164 According to information from the same url the total number of files on missing women was 413,800
• Kyle Fleischmann Foundation: Daily 2,300 Americans are reported to be missing.
• Klaaskids Foundation estimates that between 80 -90% of the missing person reports in 2000 were juveniles.

About our Voices of Hope Guests

I am often asked what we look for in the guests that we have on Voices of Hope.This blog post hopes to answer the question.

For those of you who may not already know, Voices of Hope is our internet radio show. We offer this twice a week on Blog Talk Radio. As far as we can tell this is the only radio show in existence that is geared exclusively to the needs and interests of survivors of sexual and domestic violence. It started in February and has already amassed over 21,000 listens. When you consider that we took the month off the figure is even more impressive.

We truly have great guests on Voices of Hope. We look for people who have overcome sexual or domestic violence or who have made a difference in the lives of survivors.

The advocates and domestic violence programs that we highlight all work hard in the field to improve the lives of the people they serve. The survivors who have walked the path from pain into healing share their insights to help others. Authors who write about issues faced by survivors or who support domestic violence or sexual assault programs are welcome. We've also had pastors on Voices of Hope who have experience with survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence.

Show topics for Voices of Hope often come from survivors themselves. Two popular shows that have come from survivors' requests were Domestic Violence and Halloween Safety with Anny Jacoby and Financial Empowerment with Ms. Kalyn Risker.

Voices of Hope Passes 20,000 Listens Milestone!

We've seen it coming for awhile. Finally, it's official! Voices of Hope on Blog Talk Radio has now passed the 20,000 listener mark! This means that the show has been heard around the globe 20,000 times. We couldn't have done it without or dedicated listener base and quality show guests.

Part of the popularity is the availablilty of our free downloads.
