Three ways that survivors can make extra money

We have been asked several times lately about how survivors can make extra money. As we know survivors often face a decrease in income after leaving an abusive relationship. This post discusses three ways that survivors can earn some extra income. Some of them may require obtaining training which may be available on the job.

Cake Decorators
Wedding cakes can cost between $3-$5 a slice or more. Decorators who work for themselves can net half of the cost or more. Beginning classes can be taken at many retail craft shops. Decorators make money by selling cakes to family and friends or by opening full time bakeries.

Become a tax preparer
A lot of people look forward to spring. However, there is one spring event that no one wants to think about. Some people view April 15 as a very dark day in the calender. Those who have taken an income tax course may view the day as an opportunity to make extra money.

Online writing
Websites and bloggers are constantly on the lookout for new and fresh content. Making extra money by doing online writing can fit your schedule. Ghostwriting opportunities allow a survivor to keep her name and security in check. Other online writing sites may be able to serve as a springboard to a new career.

However; the ideas above are not intended for anyone who is currently in a dangerous relationship. Survivors always should keep safety in mind and may want to consult with a trained advocate to develop a safety plan.
