Domestic Violence: Safety Planning

Domestic Violence safety planning is essential for all victims. A safety plan helps a victim to more safely leave an abuser. It also gives the survivor more control and allows for better focusing.

There are lots of good reasons to have a safety plan and absolutely no reason not to do it. Victims should contact their local shelter or National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1.800.799.SAFE or www.ndvh.org to create a plan.

By contacting either agency a victim will be able to speak with a trained domestic violence advocate. The advocate will help construct a plan and may bring up things that the victim has not thought about yet.
