Carter High School Graduation Awards

I just came from the awards ceremony for graduating seniors at Carter High School. Impressed is my word for the day.

The cermony itself took place in the school's unassuming gymnasium. Graduates were decked out in their deep green caps and gowns. A small delegation of parents watched from a side seating section as faculty, staff and dignitaries distributed honors among the students. Underclassmates were seated in the balcony and rear of the gym.

As the graduates came forward to receive their respective awards I was struck by how hard working these kids have been. Scholarship awards totalling over 3 million dollars were announced. Recognized achievements ranged from volunteerism, to academics, athletics and more. An impressive page full of names recognized the many students celebrating academic honors.

Some of the students honored were faces familiar to Hope for Healing.Org. We had both volunteers and clients were there to step forward to claim their awards. It was a humbling, inspiring, experience. I am so proud of these kids for all they have achieved, they odds they have beaten - and will continue to beat- and for how bright their future looks.

Watch out world. Carter Graduates are coming through and they're going to do just fine!
