Saturday - back in again

After making a small revision to the newsletter we worked on getting copies ready to be mailed out. For those who want the online version I fixed the link. It should work now!

For you snail mail folks, we'll get those out to you soon. We'll be in the office working on those tomorrow too. But guess what? We won't be in the office on Monday or Tuesday. I'm taking two official days almost off.

I'll still check the email but if you need me call the cell phone. Renewed and re-energized I'll see you on Wednesday!

Until next time,

Gayle

Appointments & Catch Up's

I'm still trying to dig out from under the avalanche of email that came in while I was gone. Thanks everyone, for your patience!

This morning involved a run to the sheriff's dept. in the next county to try to help a victim get some questions answered. No luck. The person we needed to talk with wasn't in. Rats! We stood outside and talked for awhile. She said it helped. I hope she wasn't just being polite.

An advocate from another program and I ate lunch together. The waitress could tell we were in more of a mood to talk than we were to eat and kept the tea glasses filled. We shared all the good things about each other's programs, new laws that are going into effect beginning July 1, how great our kids are and how we both hope they'll be safe growing up.

A phone call returned...

We got a phone call after I got home last night. For over an hour I talked with a woman and listened as she came to terms. No parent wants to admit that thier child could be an abuser. She's working on a way to confront her child with the intention of making a difference. It may be a long battle.

Fortunately, we were there to help her understand the cycle of domestic violence and to give her information on battering that will hopefully lead to a positive change. We not only hope so, we pray so - for her and for all parents who find themselves in this situation.

If you feel led, please consider praying the following prayer.

Thank you.

See you online,
Gayle

Lord,
We ask that bring comfort to this mom. We know that even though the child is over 30 mom's baby is always mom's baby. Give her the right words to say when she confronts her child. Allow her child to be receptive to the mom. Create in the child a willing heart to hear the words and use the help that will be offered to end the abuse cycle. Shine your light into the darkenss of domestic violence for all victims, abusers, parents and children. Bring healing. Bring love. Bring an end to the cycle.
In Your Name,
Amen

Back home...

What a great conference! I enjoyed talking to everyone who stopped by. All totaled we gave out more than 100 brochures in addition to the information for clergy, our newsletters, information on protective orders, answering questions and giving out bottled water. Attached to each bottle is our contact information and mission statement - a double treat!

Some people asked if we would bring our workshops to their churches - that answer is always yes! We love outreach. Let us know when you want us and we'll happily be there.

An appointment caused me to come home early. Don't worry. We've made arrangements for the display to be there for the rest of the event. (Thank goodness for volunteers!) If you are at the conference but have not yet picked up information please do stop by. Don't forget to sign the sheet to become a part of our mailing list while you're here!

Off to catch up,

Gayle

Lake Junaluska, NC

This note is being typed from the Holston United Methodist Annual Conference in Lake Junaluska. I wish you were here to see the view outside my window. The fog kissed mountains are spectacular and the company is even better. You'll find us set up in the Missions area at the Terrace.

Come on by! We've got free bottled water and guess what, it just happens to have information about sexual violence attached to it! Free water and education. How can you beat that deal? Hope to see you there!

Two people made it to the training yesterday. Thanks for coming and thanks for helping with the display. It looks great set up with the others.

See you online,

Gayle

Training Day

Yea! We're having a volunteer training on Saturday. I can't wait. It will be good to have the extra hands. We're having a domestic violence/ sexual assault overview from 9am - 12pm at the office. If you're in the area come on in. Even if you don't want to volunteer it's ok to stop in!! We've got information on protective orders, the domestic violence cycle and ways to help individuals. We'll look forward to seeing you!

After the training we'll be around working on the display for tomorrow's conference at Lake Junaluska, NC. If you have time, we'd love to have you around!

See you then,
Gayle

Post Yard Sale Wrap

I didn't know it was possible to be this tired. Thank you to everyone who came! Mother nature threatened her worst but we held firm. The yard sale went on. Whew!

Additionally, we were able to help 2 victims who stopped by and listened as one lady shared her story. She reminded me that domestic violence (DV) doesn't only affect women, but men too. I thank you for sharing with me. Your family in my prayers. Let us know if we can be of help to you.

God bless you,
Gayle

I'd better get going. I don't want to keep our volunteers waiting. I'd be lost without you!
